We tend to judge the quality of the business from their design or at least that goes in as a partial element. For me, when I walk in a store, if the interior is boring and dull, that aspect takes out a few points from my grading sale. Some might not return. What I am trying to say is, the same concept goes to fountains. I think when the city decides to build them, they do it because these fountains create ambiance, add relaxation and enhance spaces. They are such a great additional and has impact for visitors or locals. Other add-ons would be flowers, plants, trees, or art.
1. Mecom Fountain/Mecom Rockwell Colonnade
Both of these fountains can be found in Hermann Park. But to be exact Mecom Fountain is located right across from Hotel ZaZa museum district and Mecom Rockwell Colonnade is right next to the Museum of Natural Science. Hermann Park is home to a lot of museums, gardens, parks and fountains.
2. McGovern Centennial Gardens Fountain
You should visit McGovern Centennial Gardens for sure! This scenic garden in Hermann Park is a focal attraction in Houston. I cam here many many times and this photo was taken on my 20th birthday. When strolling around this spacious green area, you will see many sculptures and giant fountain. From the top of the fountain, you are able to see Houston’s downtown view. Hearing the sounds of water splashing will take the edge off the heat, especially during summer in Houston. McGovern Centennial Garden is a great location for gala functions, private dinner events, weddings, date nights, picnics and more!
3. McGovern Lake
When you explore Hermann Park, you will come across McGovern Lake. This large and peaceful lake is something you cannot miss! Just like McGovern Centennial Gardens, McGovern Lake is a perfect spot for weddings and photoshoots. I recommend you to check out the Japanese Garden right next to this lake. While it’s not as fancy as other cities’ Japanese Garden, it still serves its purpose. There is a small trail in the Japanese Garden which draws you away from the busy world. You will meet a lot of ducks, turtles, birds, and other small animals.
4. Gus S. Wortham Fountain
Featured in my other post, 10 cool places to take photos in buffalo bayou park, Gus S. Wortham Fountain is a gem along the allen parkway. This fountain is also known as dandelion fountain due to how the sculpture looks like. If you are exploring around Buffalo Bayou Park, I highly recommend you to check out this Dandelion Fountain since it’s refreshing, peaceful and relaxing. You can park right in front of this sculpture for some photos. I was lucky to get a rainbow shot here.
5. Gerald D. Hines Waterwall
If you ask me which public park in Houston has the most beautiful waterwall, I’d pick Gerald D. Hines Waterwall Park. Located across from The Williams Tower in Galleria Houston, this Waterwall is something you’d be curious about if you haven’t seen before. With Galleria traffic and hectic weekdays, I can only imagine people would come here to just kind of wind down. If you don’t feel like walking towards it, you can just drive by and hear the swoosh and splash to feel refreshed. As for parking, you can park on the street. I think the photo looks the best when you take the whole from a far. When you go too close to the wall, the water will sprinkle on you.
6. Sesquicetennial Park Fountain
There are several packs in downtown Houston, but nothing like this Sesquicentennial Park Fountain. It makes quite an entrance. It’s located underneath the bridge right by the Wortham Theatre Center, right after crossing the bridge. During the evening, the fountain lights up creating romantic night vibes.
7. Cullen Fountain and Reflection Pool
I graduated from University of Houston with a bachelor’s degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management. My favorite place to walk around in the campus was this Cullen Fountain and Reflection Pool. This fountain is located right in the center of the campus, near the main library and it’s so beautiful. When the weather is nice, students and visitors both like to read a book or chill by the pool. This fountain is also a great photo location for graduation, wedding or special events.
