Can’t believe it’s the first day of Jan 2018! My 2017 went by so fast, what about yours? So many things have happened, so before getting excited and sharing goals for 2018, let’s look back at our 2017. Write things down and see how you have spent your 2017, and find goals and resolutions based on that for 2018!

You are probably reading this article because you want to feel motivated, want to see how other people are getting their motivation, or you need help! I’m glad you are here because I am about to share some valuable and realistic ways to overcome your obstacles and to stay motivated.

Unless you consistently push yourself, motivation is something you can lose. I’ve heard many people, including me sometimes, saying “I have no motivation” “I am not getting motivated” or “I just want to give up”. That is why I want to write about this subject and share what I did to keep my motivations up.

1. You are Distracted

I haven’t wrote a blog post in two weeks and honestly, being distracted is one of the main reasons why. Whether it’s a family matter, a personal one, or a work-related issue, the best way to get over the distraction is to find a solution. If you are that person who can multitask and juggle several different things, that’s great. But if you are like me who can’t, then instead of trying to put everything on your plate, just do one thing at a time. If your mind is somewhere else right now, you probably might want to focus on that certain thing, and then another. Take baby steps! If you try to do everything at once, you will not only be overwhelmed by different problems you are facing, you also would find yourself not finishing any task and stopping in between.

2. Find your Happy Spot

With cycles of mood changes and stress, being happy is something I always try to achieve. I am trying everyday to control my emotions especially when tiny screwed up things can ruin my day or impact me a lot.

Some ways to be happy are:

A. Doing things you Love

  • It can be anything like reading, taking photos, meeting new friends, painting, playing games at home, cooking etc… this will lower your stress and up your mood. You can learn many things from activities like these.

B. Working out Regularly

  • When I am stressed, I go to the gym and get my body moving. While jogging, lifting weights or walking, I reflect about my way. These 1–2 hours where you can have your “me time” is very important for your mind and body. Hitting the gym also keeps your body fit, clean, healthy and strong. I like watching Netflix while I workout because it makes time go by fast.

C. Sleeping Good

  • Sleeping enough really matters especially if you have to balance a lot throughout the day. Simply depending on caffeine isn’t good because too much caffeine could easily stain your teeth and harm your body. The best time to sleep around is 10–11pm and then waking up at 6–8am. That’s a good 7–9 hours of sleep which is ideal. Don’t worry if you cannot make it those hours, just keep trying and find your routine. With a proper hours of sleep, you will feel yourself being more motivated, alert, and ready to get on with another day.

D. Don’t Worry Too Much

  • Overthinking or worrying about smallest things is not going to do any good. It all starts with ‘what if’… Most of the time, we worry about the things that are not going to happen or overthink about the things that actually don’t matter that much. It’s difficult not to worry about certain things, but you need to start controlling those thoughts.

E. Look at Animal Photos

This sounds funny but animal photos can literally make anyone smile. There’s a reason why animals are considered loyal best friends. They eventually make you laugh, and their presence can cheer you up. There are a lot of animal compilation videos on YouTube, images of animals on Pinterest or just everywhere online!

3. What would X do?

Sometimes when you are not getting motivated or when you feel stuck in an obstacle, the best way is to bring along your imaginary friend. We all have one person we look upon or whom we really like and respect. I would bring that person in mind and start thinking what they would do in this situation I am in. This helps whenever you feel alone or when you don’t want to share your situation with other people. By thinking in their point of view, you learn to figure out the ways to take control of yourself and think straight. A good book would be < How Successful People Think > by John C. Maxwell. It’s such a great book and easy read!

4. Eating Habits

As cliche as this may sound, bad eating habits can affect you and slow down your body. It causes irritation, mood swings, dizziness, brain fog etc. A balanced food routine is important since it changes everything. Instead of eating chips or junk food, start eating fruits and veggies. Drink at least 2L of water everyday. Just doing simple things like changing your eating habits can keep you motivated.

5. Let it All Out

Try writing down everything that is going on in your mind. Like a brain dump. Or a journal. Sometimes writing down the things that filled up your mind until it goes away really helps you to calm down. And when you read the things you wrote, some are just in your head and aren’t big of a deal. By eliminating some things that bothered you before, you can have a fresh start!
